When is there a need to take blood pressure medication?

That primarily depends on how advanced is the hypertension and on the degree of risk of complications from the cardiovascular system, which is individual for every patient.

1. Pharmacological treatment should be introduced right away when the RR values are high >160 mmHg for the systolic pressure and >100 mmHg for diastolic pressure – fig. 14.

2. Pharmacological treatment should also be started when the RR values are lower, but when simultaneous changes in organs or complications are present, which are a consequence of long-lasting hypertension – fig. 15. Also, when hypertension is accompanied by diabetes or arteriosclerosis – fig.
